When performed, Goku would cover his face with both arms and gather energy before transforming into his Super Saiyan (超サイヤ人) form, in which his hair becomes straight and yellow and his eyes become green. Upon transformation, he would throw his arms to either side and yell as a great yellow explosion in the shape of a flame surrounded him, dealing 18% damage and moderate knockback to opponents that made contact with it. Super Saiyan Goku was one of the many "Final Forms" in the game at the time of his inclusion, meaning that he was a much different character who has faster and more powerful attacks than his normal form.
Super Saiyan Goku was one of the most powerful Final Forms in the game. His attacks relied more on brute power in both damage and knockback, most of his attacks had little to no startup or ending lag, and he had strong knockback resistance to most attacks, as only some smash attacks and special moves caused him to flinch. These traits, along with his abilities to jump and float infinitely, made it very difficult to KO him.
Moveset[]
The following moveset list details the properties of Super Saiyan Goku's attacks in version 0.9.1.1982 of the demo, the most recent revision it was included in.
Flies downwards while upside down, his body engulfed in yellow energy. A powerful meteor smash that goes through opponents. Has a stronger hit just before ending.
Spins the opponent around four times quickly before throwing the opponent backwards. Based on Goku's Dragonthrow technique in the Dragon Ball franchise.
Flies and carries the opponent upwards, then flies back down and slams them into the ground, making a small explosion. Similar to Kirby's and Meta Knight's up throws in appearance.
Concentrates his Ki into a single point between his hands and then thrusts forward to shoot out a powerful streaming beam. It can one-hit KO certain characters at close range when near the ledge or in the middle of a stage.
Transforms into his Super Saiyan 3 form and releases a dragon-shaped projectile from his fists. The projectile travels a large distance forward and deals strong knockback.
Performs a flip kick before teleporting in one of eight directions, as chosen by the player. Can be followed up with a spinning kick and then a double axe handle by holding the input, the latter of which meteor smashes opponents.
Teleports himself to the top center of the stage, reverts to his regular form, then charges, while arms raised, a huge ball of energy; he is also impervious to any damage as he charges it. After it is charged, Goku launches the Genki Dama toward the stage. If opponents come in contact with it, they will become trapped and will be severally damaged. Despite its great power, it is a very slow and predictable move and can be easily dodged on bigger stages as it slowly descends toward the center of a stage, and in addition, does not offer any knockback.
This form originated in the manga series Dragon Ball. The transformation was first referred through numerous times during the Saiyan and Freeza sagas and finally made its appearance in Chapter 317 of the manga titled, Life or Death (生か死か). Goku was the first person ever shown on the manga to achieve it after witnessing his best friend Krillin's death at the hands of the villain Frieza, using this transformation to ultimately defeat the latter.
The transformation causes Goku's hair to stand on end and turn a golden color. His facial expression becomes sharpened, and the color of his irises turns to a bright emerald green. As a Super Saiyan, Goku's power level is 50 times greater than that of his normal form. Initially, the massive energies involved cause Goku's emotions to be stirred, making it difficult to remain calm. As a pure heart Saiyan, Goku becomes ruthless and overcome with rage. This is first demonstrated when Goku went from a calm, collected fighter to becoming a vengeful warrior, hellbent on avenging his fallen friend, Krillin, even at his own peril. With constant training, Goku eventually managed to control his emotions during the transformation and also achieve mightier forms of the transformation, like the Super Saiyan 3, which increases his power level 400 times greater than his normal form. Super Saiyan 2 and 3 cost too much energy to be maintained, so Goku often uses Super Saiyan God forms instead to enhance Super Saiyan power, which appear in Dragon Ball Super.
