Sonic Wave (ソニックウェーブ) was originally Super Sonic's side special move in Super Smash Flash 2 before being completely replaced by the Spin Dash in v0.7 of the demo.

Overview

When performed, Super Sonic would curl into a ball and quickly fire a large blue energy blast forward, which would travel in a straight trajectory forwards at a distance roughly the length of Final Destination. The projectile fired would pass through any opponents hit and deal 13% damage to each, as well as very high knockback at higher damage percentages. There would also be an additional attack during the very beginning of his spinning animation, dealing 27% damage and heavy knockback to opponents who make contact with Super Sonic during that time. The move would also cancel all of Super Sonic's horizontal and vertical momentum when used, stopping him in place until the attack is finished.

Origin

SB Sonic Wave

Sonic Wave's skill card from Sonic Battle.

Sonic Wave originates as a move used primarily by Sonic the Hedgehog in Sonic Battle, where it serves as Sonic's Ground Shot. Much like in SSF2, the user curls into a ball when performed, as if to perform a Spin Dash, but the user instead creates a shock wave, whilst jumping backwards from recoil. He can also deal damage during the Spin Dash portion of the move. The main differences between the two games include how the move can also be aimed in Sonic Battle, and the wave can also carry opponents due to the knockback and the projectile speed (depending on such a placement it can deal damage twice). It also cannot be used in the air, as the aerial version of this attack is a completely separate move called Sonic Storm.
