Mega Man, known as Rockman (ロックマン Rokkuman) in Japan, is a platform game and the first Mega Man game. It was co-created by Keiji Inafune of Capcom in 1987 and debuted on the Famicom in Japan, and was localized for North America in December 1987 and for Europe in May 1990 on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
The game begins the struggle of the humanoid robot and player-character Mega Man against the mad scientist Dr. Wily and the six Robot Masters under his control. Mega Man's nonlinear gameplay lets the player choose the order in which to complete its initial six stages. Each culminates in a "Robot Master" boss battle that awards the player-character a unique weapon.
Critics praised Mega Man for its overall design, though the game was not a commercial success. Mega Man established many of the gameplay, story, and graphical conventions that define the ensuing sequels, subseries, and spin-offs. It is also known for its high difficulty.
In the Super Smash Flash series
Being the inaugural game in the Mega Man series, the eponymous protagonist Mega Man made its very first appearance in this game. A few of his attack and special moves in Super Smash Flash 2 come from this game with different effects.
Mega Man's standard special move is the Mega Buster which was introduced in this game. Another standard special move of his is the Super Arm. Mega Man's normal attacks such as his back aerial is the Fire Storm. However, the Fire Storm works differently than its game counterpart by being a blast Mega Man fires behind him instead of being fire orbs that circle around him. His up aerial is the Ice Slasher, though it does not freeze the opponent. His floor attack is the Thunder Beam. However, the beams look like regular laser beams instead of electric beams and the beams come out of both of Mega Man's arms.
