Lake of Rage (いかりのみずうみ), also known as Gyarados Lake (ギャラドスこ), is a starter stage in Super Smash Flash 2 that hails from Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, notable for the highly aggressive shiny Gyarados that lives in the lake. The stage was initially leaked via CR Drake's livestream, though there was nothing to show of it besides a placeholder stage icon. In the sixth dev blog, a secret message has revealed that Lake of Rage is a new stage in Beta version.

Getting a total of 20 KOs or self-destructs in the bottom blast line of this stage will unlock Steel Diver.

Layout[]

Lake of Rage is composed of two primary platforms, the land and the island. The land portion found on the left side connects to the stages boundaries. It contains stairs that leads into a wooden dock that characters can hang off the ledge. A huge gap of water is found in the middle of the stage. On the right side stands an elevated island that has a slope on its left side, and a plateau in the middle. A huge, shiny, red Gyarados roams the lake and sporadically pops out of the water to shoot its Hyper Beam toward the foreground, heavily damaging any player on the way.

Music[]

  • The main music track is Lake of Rage Swing, a calm remix of the theme that plays on Routes 42, 43, 44, and the Lake of Rage itself in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver.
  • The alternate music track is Champion Battle (Lance & Red), an orchestral rock remix of the theme that plays during the battle against rivals Silver, Lance, or Red in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver.

Tournament Legality[]

This stage is banned in competitive play. It has a pit in the middle and a walk off on one side.

Origin[]

Lakeofrageoriginal

The Lake of Rage and red Gyarados as they appear in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

The stage is a major area that appears in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. It is a lake that contains an abnormally large number of Gyarados, who were Magikarp that underwent abnormal evolutions after being experimented on by Team Rocket, becoming highly hostile and aggressive towards anyone that dares to come close to them.

The red Gyarados is the most notable and a mandatory encounter. It was used to introduce the concept of Shiny Pokémon to trainers, as Gold and Silver were the first installments in the series to have them and finding one randomly before then, especially without knowing of them, is a very unlikely event.

Trivia[]

  • If the player uses the Camera off-screen on the left side of the bottom corner they will see two signs.
