Kirby using Hammer on the ground.
|Effect||Kirby pulls out a hammer and powerfully swings it forward.|
When performed on the ground, Kirby pulls out a hammer and then swings it a short distance horizontally forwards. On contact, it deals 23% damage with very strong knockback to the opponent hit. When performed in the air, he horizontally swings the hammer twice with less startup lag but also less damage and knockback. The first hit deals 17% damage, and the second deals 15% damage. If Kirby touches the ground when using the move in the air, he lands on his face, cancelling the rest of the move.
Hammer originates as one of Kirby's many Copy Abilities from the Kirby series, most frequently obtained by inhaling the mini-boss Bonkers. Similarly to how it is used in SSF2, it is often one of the most powerful ones, dealing massive damage to enemies. The way Kirby swings his hammer is most similar to the Hammer Swing move from the said ability, where Kirby spins around several times with his hammer outstretched.
The design of the hammer is based most closely on its modern design in the Kirby series, which first appeared in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. However, the cord of twisted blue and white fabric that Hammer Kirby has worn from this point on does not appear in SSF2.
