Trailers for Super Smash Flash 2 are generally released to YouTube to demonstrate new releases of demos and their content, while others are first shown in McLeodGaming's various Twitch streams during special events such as Super Smash Con. Prior to the release of Beta 1.3 of the demo, trailers on YouTube were primarily uploaded to McLeodGaming's main channel, but they have since been uploaded to SSF2 Team's official channel.

Below is a list of all trailers released for Super Smash Flash 2. Note that various similar videos, such as gameplay demonstrations and update announcements, are omitted from this list.

Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser[]

The Official Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser

The original trailer for Super Smash Flash 2.

The first trailer to announce SSF2, known as "Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser" and also called "The Official Super Smash Flash 2 Teaser", was made by former developer Alex NintendoFlash Torres and released on his Newgrounds account on April 4, 2008. It is based directly on the reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, featuring the same music and very similar events.

It opens with Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu, who appear with their sprites from Super Smash Flash before they change to the new sprites featured in Super Smash Flash 2. The SSF2 logo then appears and the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Brawl begins playing, followed by footage of the four characters fighting on Battlefield and Castle Siege. Ridley is shown as an Assist Trophy, and the Smash Ball and multiple Final Smashes, including Fire Mario, Triforce Slash, and Cook Kirby, are also shown. They then appear on Hueco Mundo, where Ichigo is revealed as a newcomer. Ichigo fights the other four characters before appearing on the stage Dive to the Heart, where he blocks an incoming Keyblade from Sora, who is revealed as the next newcomer. The two fight each other for a moment before the next newcomer, Azreal, intervenes. The three then look to the right, where the next newcomer, Goku, is turning into Super Saiyan Goku. He charges and releases a Super Kamehameha that causes a massive explosion, ending the trailer. The credits then roll as the song "Bramble Blast" from Super Smash Bros. Brawl plays, and at the end, Donkey Kong is revealed to be another newcomer.

Character reveals[]

Most often, trailers for SSF2 are used specifically to reveal upcoming characters or new versions of them, such as updated sprites. Below is a list of these trailers in chronological order of release.

Fox[]

????????????????????????

????????????????????????

Fox's reveal trailer.

Fox's reveal trailer was released to former developer Max Void Silverman's YouTube channel on October 29, 2011 to be featured as a surprise announcement in the fifth v0.8 Dev Blog the following day. It opens with the SSF2 logo zooming in as the song "ƒƒƒƒƒ" from Pop'n Music 13 CARNIVAL plays before cutting to a montage individually showcasing every other playable character included in the game prior to v0.8, with text displaying which demo they first appeared in. After the montage, the music changes to a custom arrangement of "Corneria" from Star Fox and text for v0.8 appears, followed by Fox being revealed in a gameplay montage showcasing him. After the montage, the trailer ends with text on the screen thanking Ema 194 Alvarado for making the arrangement of "Corneria" used in the trailer and Steven for spriting Fox.

Isaac[]

McLeodGaming_Direct_-_Super_Smash_Flash_2_v0.9b_(7_21_14)

McLeodGaming Direct - Super Smash Flash 2 v0.9b (7 21 14)

The McLeodGaming Direct for v0.9b, in which Isaac's reveal trailer starts at 11:38.

Isaac's reveal trailer was shown as a surprise announcement at the end of the McLeodGaming Direct for v0.9b of the demo on July 21, 2014. As Isaac would not be released until Beta, Void first makes it clear that he is not ready for release in v0.9b, and instead he is something to look forward to in the future.

The trailer then begins with Mario and Link fighting each other on Battlefield. The rock structure in the background is zoomed into to reveal Chibi-Robo behind it, who then goes to examine something rupturing the ground. A flower then emerges from that spot, much to Chibi-Robo's happiness. Returning to the foreground, Mario attempts to shoot a Fireball at Link, but it ends up hitting the flower instead. Chibi-Robo tries to fan the fire away, but it grows and burns the flower to a crisp, deeply upsetting Chibi-Robo. As he sulks, an unknown figure lands on the left platform, and a green glow appears around the flower to bring it back to life. Chibi-Robo is delighted, and the unknown figure descends next to the flower, revealing himself to be Isaac. He then poses as an abridged version of the music track Isaac's Battle Theme (Golden Sun) plays and a splash screen with the tagline "Isaac Stands His Ground!" appears. The trailer then ends with a picture of Isaac on Final Destination with a message to look forward to more information about the future of SSF2.

Bowser[]

McLeodGaming_Direct_-_Super_Smash_Flash_2_Beta_(1_25_15)

McLeodGaming Direct - Super Smash Flash 2 Beta (1 25 15)

The McLeodGaming Direct for Beta, in which Bowser's reveal trailer starts at 20:00.

Bowser's reveal trailer, much like Isaac's reveal trailer, was a surprise announcement at the end of a McLeodGaming Direct, namely the one for SSF2 Beta on January 25, 2015. It occurs during a montage of gameplay clips and screens showcasing each character, in which Isaac's is sliced in half and the screen goes black.

The trailer then begins, playing a custom music track remixing "Ground Theme" from Super Mario Bros. and the SSF2 theme. Mario and Peach are shown peacefully walking together through a grassy plain. The screen then pans left to reveal Link, who challenges Mario while Peach runs away to safety. Mario runs toward him while Link fires arrows from his Hero's Bow, which Mario dodges and reflects with his Cape. Link blocks the reflected arrow and Mario launches him skyward with a punch, but when he jumps after him, Link kicks him back down. As they land on the ground and continue to fight, a large large figure can be seen jumping high up in the background. As Link charges another arrow and Mario charges a Fireball, a large shadow between them gradually grows bigger before it is revealed to be Bowser, who launches them both away with a Bowser Bomb. The song "World 8" from Super Mario 3D World plays, and Bowser then poses as a splash screen with the tagline "Bowser Is In The Castle" appears. After this, he chases down Peach and then uses Flying Slam to take them both to Battlefield, where the trailer cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing him. The SSF2 logo then appears, ending the trailer.

Mega Man and Luigi[]

SSF2_Beta_Super_Smash_Con_Reveal_Trailer

SSF2 Beta Super Smash Con Reveal Trailer

Mega Man's resprite and Luigi's reveal trailer.

A trailer revealing Mega Man's new sprites in Beta, as well as Luigi, was released at the end of Day 3 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2015 Twitch stream on August 8, 2015. It was created mainly by Max Void Silverman, with the animation being done by Alex Tid Knowles, Ramsey Geno Kaid, Jamal Zero Insanity Ransaw, FriendAlias, and Ethan Pixel Boy White.

The trailer starts with a recreation of the beginning of Mega Man's reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, opening with a siren and a "New Challenger Approaching!" sign. It then cuts to a canyon at night, where Mario, Link, Kirby, and Donkey Kong glance up to the top of a cliff where the silhouette of a humanoid with spiky hair stands. A helmet forms around its head and its eyes light up, revealing the figure to be Mega Man. The song "Mega Man 2 Medley" from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U then plays as Mega Man leaps into the air and teleports out of the canyon, reappearing in an area similar to the stage intro screen from Mega Man 2 and striking a pose. A splash screen with the tagline "Mega Man Rejoins The Battle!" appears before cutting to a gameplay montage that showcases Mega Man's attacks. It first showcases various basic attacks before then showing the ones he gains from Robot Masters, which are accompanied by images of the Robot Masters' silhouettes on a screen and a custom arrangement of the song "Dr. Wily Stage 1" from Mega Man 2.

After the montage, Mega Man gets attacked and launched around Skull Fortress by Mario, Kirby, Link, Ness, Fox, Yoshi, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, and Samus, in that order. He then stands back up and the screen zooms out to show all of the characters as the Super Smash Bros. logo appears in the background, followed by a recreation of the character selection screen from the original Super Smash Bros., though Luigi is absent. After a moment, Luigi suddenly appears, using Super Jump Punch on Mega Man and then striking a pose as a custom arrangement of the main theme of Luigi's Mansion plays and a splash screen with the tagline "Luigi Slides In!" appears. It then cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing him with the SSF2 logo appearing at the end, ending the trailer.

Sandbag[]

SSF2_BETA_A_Newcomer_Smashes_In!

SSF2 BETA A Newcomer Smashes In!

Sandbag's reveal trailer.

Sandbag's reveal trailer, titled "A Newcomer Smashes In!", was released in Dev Blog #5 for Beta on April 1, 2016. It opens with Captain Falcon and a motionless Sandbag on Waiting Room before an Online match as the music track Waiting Room plays. A robotic voice on the floating monitors then tells Captain Falcon to train with the Sandbag while waiting before transferring him to the match. Suddenly, the stage's background changes and the robotic voice asks what is happening. As the music fades out, CLEODBOT, a robotic entity bearing the likeness of Gregory McLeod, installs himself onto one of the monitors. He then says "I must become the bag" and possesses the Sandbag on the stage while laughing, leading it to leap forward as a splash screen with the tagline "Sandbag Smashes Back!" appears. A custom arrangement of the Waiting Room theme and various songs from the Super Smash Bros. series then plays over a gameplay montage of the playable Sandbag. This ends with Sandbag using its Final Smash, Home-Run Combo, against Bomberman, which acts as a reference to how Bomberman previously launched a Sandbag with a Home-Run Bat in the game's APEX 2015 teaser. The SSF2 logo then appears, ending the trailer.

This trailer (and the dev blog itself) was created as an April Fools' Day joke, as the date it was released and the absurdity of Sandbag being playable lead many people to think that Sandbag would not actually be playable in SSF2. However, two days later in Dev Blog #5.1, Sandbag was revealed to actually be playable, with the joke instead being to trick people into thinking otherwise.

Sonic and Tails[]

-SSF2 BETA- Reach for the Stars (Sonic 30th Remastered)

Sonic's and Tails' remastered resprites reveal trailer.

Sonic's and Tails' resprites in Beta were revealed in a trailer titled "Reach for the Stars" released to YouTube on January 1, 2017. It was created by former developer FriendAlias.

The trailer opens the McLeodGaming logo and cuts to Sonic and Tails taunting and standing idly with their sprites from v0.9b, as the track "Reach for the Stars" from Sonic Colors plays. Their lower halves are then shown as they walk forward, transitioning from their old sprites to their new sprites before they are then shown running, hovering, attacking, and taunting with their new sprites. A splash screen with the tagline "Sonic & Tails Team Up For Battle!" appears, followed by a gameplay montage showcasing the two characters that ends with Sonic using his Final Smash, Super Sonic, which also showcases updated sprites. The SSF2 logo then appears, ending the trailer.

On July 11, 2021, a remastered version of the original trailer was released to YouTube to celebrate the Sonic series' thirtieth anniversary, with this trailer also being created by FriendAlias. It is formatted the same but opens with the SSF2 Team logo and uses updated gameplay clips from the most recent development build of SSF2 at the time, as well as a pre-rendered clip of Tails carrying Sonic. Additionally, the music track was replaced with the version of "Reach for the Stars" played by the Tomoya Ohtani Band at the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Symphony. The trailer now ends with an image of the five Sonic characters and two Sonic fan characters featured in Super Smash Flash before being overlaid with the message "THANKS SONIC", along with the SSF2 logo and the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary logo.

Simon[]

Super Smash Flash 2 Beta A new...ish challenger approaches.

Simon's reveal trailer.

Simon's reveal trailer, titled "A new...ish challenger approaches.", was released during Day 1 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2018 Twitch stream on August 10, 2018. The trailer makes fun of the fact that Simon had been revealed as a playable character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a mere two days beforehand, as it opens with SSF2 developer Steven watching Simon's Ultimate reveal trailer. When Simon reveals himself in the trailer, Steven turns to the camera and is presumably about to swear before he is cut off by Simon's splash screen with the tagline "Simon Lashes Out! ...Again". It then cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing him as the music track Castlevania Retro Medley plays, including several still images of Simon using various attacks. The montage ends with Simon taunting and the SSF2 logo then appears. The trailer itself ends with Steven saying how he "can't believe Luigi is just dead", referencing how Luigi's spirit is separated from his body by Death in the Ultimate trailer.

Krystal[]

SSF2 Beta Another newcomer appears!

Krystal's reveal trailer.

Krystal's reveal trailer, titled "Another newcomer appears!" was released to YouTube during Day 2 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2018 Twitch stream on August 11, 2018. It is a short teaser that opens with the McLeodGaming logo and remains black for a moment, before changing to show Krystal taunting. It then cuts to Krystal's splash screen with the tagline "Krystal Takes Command!" as Krystal says "Try me", ending the trailer.

It should be noted that this trailer was not actually used to reveal Krystal during the Twitch stream. Instead, she was revealed with the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" screen used for unlockable characters in SSF2, followed by the splash screen.

Rayman and Waluigi[]

SSF2_Beta_A_double_reveal_special!

SSF2 Beta A double reveal special!

Rayman's and Waluigi's reveal trailer, titled "A double reveal special!", was shown during Day 3 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2018 Twitch stream on August 12, 2018. Like with Krystal's reveal, it uses the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" screen used for unlockable characters to reveal Rayman, followed by a splash screen with the tagline "Rayman Lends a Hand!" as his victory theme plays. Afterwards, the screen fades to black before slowly fading to purple, and the Wario series symbol suddenly appears as Waluigi says, "Yeah! Waluigi!". The trailer then ends with a message saying that Waluigi would begin development after the event and thanking the audience for tuning in.

Sora[]

SSF2_Beta_v1.2_A_Second_Chance

SSF2 Beta v1.2 A Second Chance

Sora's resprite reveal trailer.

Sora's resprite in Beta 1.2 was revealed in a trailer titled "A Second Chance" released to YouTube on May 4, 2019, though it was teased on the channel through a YouTube premiere the previous day. It was created by former developer FriendAlias.

The trailer opens with the logo for the SSF2 Team, the first instance of this logo being used. The text used in the beginning of KINGDOM HEARTS III trailers then appears. It then shows gameplay of Sora fighting and getting KO'd by Pit, referencing the DEATH BATTLE! episode "Sora VS Pit", which featured sprites from SSF2. Sora is then shown in a recreation of KINGDOM HEARTS II's game over screen. The cursor selects "Continue" as the screen fades to black before showing Sora's on-screen appearance on Twilight Town as the music track Rowdy Rumble plays. Sora's resprite is then revealed, and a splash screen with the tagline "Sora Breaks the Chains!" appears. Various gameplay clips showcasing Sora's moveset are then shown.

For the second half of the trailer, the music changes to a custom arrangement of "Don't Think Twice" from KINGDOM HEARTS III by Chernabogue, and both gameplay and pre-rendered clips are shown. These clips show more of Sora's moveset and reference various scenes from the KINGDOM HEARTS series, with Riku being revealed as an Assist Trophy and Giga Bowser being revealed as Bowser's Final Smash. Palette-based costumes were also first teased in this trailer, with Sora's "AntiForm" costume being briefly shown. At the end of the trailer, Sora is shown with a Smash Ball on The World That Never Was, and a portion of Waluigi's appearance is shown for the first time. Donald Duck and Goofy then appear alongside Sora to fight him, and the trailer ends with the SSF2 logo appearing. This section of the trailer notably lacks sound effects, referencing their omission in trailers for KINGDOM HEARTS III. Most of Sora's and Riku's voice clips in the trailer are taken from KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance].

On October 16, 2021, FriendAlias discussed the development of the trailer on Twitter while also revealing several early concepts and hidden references. According to FriendAlias, the first cut of the trailer was completed on August 19, 2018, shortly after the end of Super Smash Con 2018.[1]

Lucario's reveal trailer.

Lucario's reveal trailer, titled "The Guiding Wave", was released during Day 1 of McLeodGaming's Super Smash Con 2019 Twitch stream on August 9, 2019. It was created by FriendAlias.

The trailer opens with the logo for the SSF2 Team. It then shows Pikachu and Goku finding a Dragon Ball beside a crystal from Crystal Smash, and Goku picks it up. Aura then appears around them, and the crystal starts to shatter as Lucario's silhouette appears inside. The screen blackens when it fully breaks, and Lucario says "Behold the power of aura!". It then shows Lucario's face, revealing his appearance as he says, "The aura is with me!". It zooms out to show his full body as the main theme of Pokkén Tournament plays, and a splash screen with the tagline "Lucario Detects an Encounter!" appears.

The trailer then shows Lucario and Goku on the top and bottom of the screen, respectively, with Goku saying "You look kinda familiar", possibly referencing how the two characters share the same English voice actor or how Lucario resembles Beerus from the Dragon Ball franchise. Goku then says, "Show me what you can do!" and the two begin to fight as the trailer cuts to show gameplay of Lucario. Many of Lucario's attacks are shown off, including his special moves and Final Smash, Aura Storm, and Sky Pillar is also revealed. The trailer ends with the SSF2 logo appearing.

Initially, this trailer was planned to feature a custom arrangement of the song "Battle! (Wild Pokémon)" from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl by Chernabogue, though this was scrapped. The unfinished track was later included as a bonus track in the album Super Smash Flash 2: Music from Update 1.2.

It then shows the same shot of Lucario and Goku on opposite sides of the screen as in Lucario's trailer, except without music and with text in the corners of the screen reading "INSERT COIN(S)" and "CREDIT: 00", referencing the Street Fighter arcade games. The credit counter then goes up by one, and just before Lucario and Goku begin fighting, the the announcer from Street Fighter Alpha 3 says "HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER", which is also displayed as text. A Hadoken then flies forward as Lucario and Goku both dodge it, and Ryu's hands are briefly shown after firing it. The back side of Ryu holding his bag is then shown with Lucario and Goku in front of him, and he says, "The journey has just begun" as he drops his bag. He then says, "Come on!" and takes a fighting stance, and a splash screen with the tagline "Ryu Seeks a New Challenge!" appears as the music track Ryu's Theme plays.

The trailer then cuts to show gameplay of Ryu, starting with Ryu taunting alongside another Ryu with a costume based on Ken. The announcer from Capcom vs. SNK 2 then says "Go for broke! Fight!" before showcasing Ryu's moveset, with Suzaku Castle and a costume based on Evil Ryu also being revealed. It was created by developers FriendAlias and Refurin.

The trailer opens with the logo for the SSF2 Team. It then shows the character selection screen used at Super Smash Con 2019, with Waluigi still being locked and Mario, Luigi, and Wario selected by players 1, 2, and 3, respectively. After a moment, Waluigi can be heard running and panting in the distance before suddenly appearing and knocking down the "READY TO FIGHT" banner and the lock over his portrait. He then stomps the player 4 token into the ground and laughs. He climbs into the player 4 box and walks off to the left, where he finds his portrait art and pushes it into view. He then jumps out of the way, and a splash screen with the tagline "Waluigi Steals a Slot!" appears as a custom arrangement of the Waluigi Stadium theme from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! plays.

Gameplay trailers[]

Unlike with reveal trailers, several trailers for SSF2 instead focus on a single previously announced or released character and simply show off raw gameplay featuring the character without the intention of revealing new content. Below is a list of these trailers in chronological order of release.

Mini-Trailers[]

The Super Smash Flash 2 Mini-Trailers, or SSF2 Mini-Trailers for short, are small compilations of videos showcased on McLeodGaming's YouTube channel, with each one featuring a single previously announced character. Because they are described as "concept trailers", these videos feature "prefabricated gameplay", showing dramatizations of the actual gameplay and how each character's moveset could work. They also led to speculate the appearances of some possible stages, which may or may not be included in the final game.

Below is a list of the four Mini-Trailers in chronological order of release.

The official trailer for v0.9b of the demo was released to YouTube on January 15, 2014 to promote its appearance at APEX 2014, which would start two days later. Much like the initial trailer for SSF2, the first half of this trailer is based directly on the reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, featuring the same music, many of the same events, and even the same sound effects before cutting to a separate segment to reveal Zero Suit Samus.

It opens with Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu, who appear with their sprites from v0.9a of the demo before they change to the sprites featured in v0.9b. The SSF2 logo then appears, followed by footage of the four characters fighting on Battlefield and Castle Siege. Electrode, Magikarp, and Chatot are shown, as well as Final Smashes including Mario Finale, Triforce Slash, and Cook Kirby. Mega Man, Black Mage, and Bomberman then join the other four characters fighting on Skyward Voyage as the Beedle Ship takes off, revealing Meta Knight standing on it. He fights the other characters before Lloyd dives down with Rising Falcon. Meta Knight and Lloyd fight atop the ship for a while before Samus appears and uses Zero Laser, causing the two to flee as the laser covers the screen.

A silhouette of Zero Suit Samus is then shown alongside her portrait art before the light fades, revealing her on Final Destination as text of her name displays underneath her. It then cuts to a gameplay montage showcasing her, and the trailer ends with text displaying the dates and website where v0.9b of the demo would be streamed during APEX 2014.

The APEX 2015 trailer for Beta.

The trailer for McLeodGaming's appearance at APEX 2015, which was to show off SSF2 Beta, was released to YouTube on December 20, 2014. It opens with Isaac walking across Desk before stomping due to a loud rumbling. After looking around, he then runs off followed by multiple other characters before the APEX 2015 logo displays. Information of the event's dates, address, and website is also shown, along with the link to McLeodGaming's Twitch stream. The trailer then ends with the rumbling revealed to be coming from a Sandbag, who then hops to the left before being launched by a Home-Run Bat from Bomberman, which also served as a teaser to Home-Run Contest.

Other trailers[]

Below is a list of trailers made for miscellaneous purposes, such as April Fools' Day jokes, in chronological order.

An Incredible Newcomer!

The April Fools' Day trailer "revealing" Mr. Incredible.

On April 1, 2014, McLeodGaming uploaded a trailer to their YouTube channel which supposedly revealed Mr. Incredible as a playable character in SSF2. The following day, the name and description of the video were edited to show that this was, in fact, an April Fools' Day joke and that Mr. Incredible would not actually be playable in the game.

It opens with the McLeodGaming logo as a custom arrangement of the song "The Glory Days" from The Incredibles plays. Zero Suit Samus, Ness, Zelda, and Kirby are then shown running off the edges of Final Destination, where Mr. Incredible is then shown standing in the center. Several gameplay clips are then shown for him, but aside from basic movements like walking and jumping, he is only shown using one attack, which was used as his down attack in the original Super Smash Flash. The screen then remains black for 20 seconds with no music, and the trailer ends with Mega Man using his side taunt at Mr. Incredible at the last second.

Although very few animations for Mr. Incredible were shown in the trailer, former developer Jacob Tjolsen, who had programmed Mr. Incredible into the game, later revealed on January 2, 2022 that he "nearly fully designed" the character but held back on showing more of him as to not make the development team "look distracted".[2]
