When performed, Sonic would curl into his ball form, cancelling all vertical momentum for a moment, and then rockets downwards for a stall-then-fall attack. The move would cause Sonic to strike the ground with force when he lands, propelling him back into the air. When coming into contact with an opponent, they would be dealt 6% damage with decent knockback and a powerful meteor smash. However, the move was also dangerous to use off-stage because Sonic would not stop falling until he hits an opponent. While Sonic would not be able to bounce off of opponents if the move connected with them, he would be able to jump out of the animation and recover. Sonic would also be able grab ledges during the animation.
The Bounce Attack is a recurring move in the Sonic franchise that originates in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where it is actually called the Continuous Bound (連続バウンド). In this game, Sonic can perform this move while equipped with the Water Shield, and it can be performed simply by pressing the jump button in midair at any time, even directly after using it. Much like in SSF2, Sonic rockets downwards in his ball form, and performing the attack on the ground will propel him back up into the air. However, Sonic will not go through enemies after using the attack on them, instead bouncing off of them with a large jumping distance.
