Blaster (ブラスター, Burasutā) is Fox's standard attack in Super Smash Flash and his standard special move in Super Smash Flash 2. The attack consists on Fox taking out a gun to shoot red lasers; depending on the game, the Blaster works differently.

Overview

In the original Super Smash Flash, Fox's Blaster works like every other projectile-based attack in the game and, coincidentally, more similar to how the Blaster works in the original Super Smash Bros.. The red laser causes characters to flinch, very minimal compared to other projectiles, and Fox can only can only shoot at certain intervals.

The attack was reworked in the Super Smash Flash 2 to function exactly as the Blaster does from Super Smash Bros. Melee onwards: it be used for rapid-fire, does not cause enemies to flinch, and has transcendent priority. The attack deals 1-2% per shot when used on an opponent.

Throws

With the exception of Fox's forward throw, all of his throws involve the use his blaster. Fox's back throw will have him throw the opponent behind him and shot the opponent three times dealing 10% (the throw dealing 7% and the three lasers dealing 1% each). Fox's down throw haves him throwing the opponent to the ground shooting them three times dealing 3% (the throw does no damage); it also meteor smashes his opponents into the ground which can set up tech chases. Fox's up throw haves him throw his opponents up into the air and shoot the opponent three times dealing 12% damage (the throw dealing 9% and the three lasers dealing 1% each). Oddly enough the lasers make the opponent flinch when he uses his up throw.

Technique

Short hop laser

Short hop double laser

Short hop laser (also known as short hop blaster, abbreviated as SHL and SHB) is a technique performed by short hopping with Fox, then firing a laser. The technique has two variants: the short hop double laser (SHDL) and the short hop triple laser (SHTL), for which two or three lasers can be fired in a short hop without fast falling, respectively (however, Fox can only do up to a SHDL). Kirby can also use this technique to when he uses Inhale to copy Fox's blaster, and is the only character who can do a SHTL. This technique is done because a grounded blaster has a frame of ending lag so short hopping while firing the blaster and landing will auto-cancel the ending lag of the move.

Origin

The Blaster is an attack original to Super Smash Bros. His possession of one is likely loosely based on the primary weapons in the Star Fox series, the Arwing lasers. Otherwise, it's merely a weapon type that has been a staple of science fiction since the early days of the genre.

Though it originated outside of the Star Fox universe, it was later made canon in Star Fox Adventures. Though Fox does not use it, he complains that he was not allowed to bring it to Dinosaur World, after which Peppy Hare scolds him that it would have been too destructive.
