This article is about Blade's appearance in Super Smash Flash. For general information about the character, see Blade.

Blade is a playable newcomer starter character in Super Smash Flash. He is based on the Sonic fan character Flare the Hedgehog from Newgrounds user, Equinox-Twilight, and uses sprites of Flare that were redesigned by another user called topcat13, also known as Topcat, specifically for the game. He wields a sword and fights with a variety of quick strikes designed to gradually whittle the opponent down over time.

Blade is ranked 28th on the current tier list, placing him in the P tier.

Attributes[]

Blade possesses some of the fastest attacks in the game, which gives him the ability to throw out moves quickly without fear of getting punished. His Spin Dash is fast, has good range, racks up damage quickly, and can be used to edgeguard opponents who are recovering low. He also has good survivability due to his momentum canceling side attack, which allows him to cancel his knockback momentum immediately upon use.

However, his moves deal low damage and have a very short active duration, giving him one of the worst damage outputs in the game. Despite being a sword user, his range is ridiculously bad, which is further compounded by his lack of a projectile, which limits his approach options severely. In particular, his up attack and down attack are terrible finishing moves due to their lack of range, which requires that Blade's opponent be practically on top of him in order to hit successfully. For these reasons, he has trouble dealing with characters that have better KO power, leading to terrible matchups across the board, thus putting him near the bottom of the tier list.

Trivia[]

  • Blade is one of two fan characters included in the game, the other being his clone, Blue.
  • Blade and Pikachu are the only non-clone characters to share a spot on a tier list, with both being ranked 29th at the bottom of the second tier list from December 23, 2015.
  • Blade was the first character coded into the game, and was its original sole main character. Because of this, he is one of the only two playable characters in the early Super Smash Flash Demo, the other being Samus.
