Mega Man using Beat Call.
|Effect||Mega Man summons Beat, who then carries him upward for a short time.|
When performed, Mega Man pulls out Beat, a robotic blue bird, and holds him over his head. Beat then flaps his wings and flies Mega Man upward for about one second before disappearing. During this time, Mega Man can fire forward uncharged Mega Buster shots, and the move can be canceled with any aerial attack. Upon receiving damage or canceling the move with an aerial attack, Beat will fly away, leaving Mega Man unable to perform the move again, though he will not become helpless. This move also depletes Mega Man´s midair jump, regardless whether he used it before or not. However, if he flinches after or while using the move, he will be able to use it again. This move grants Mega Man heavy armor in the initial frames of the move.
Beat has appeared as a part of Mega Man's arsenal multiple times throughout the Mega Man games, starting with Mega Man 5. Beat plays a much more offensive role in this game, as he attacks enemies that appear in Mega Man's way. He kept this role in multiple Mega Man games since, but Beat's function in SSF2 is based more on how he appeared in Mega Man 7. After the player rescues Beat in a hidden area in Slash Man's stage using the weapon Scorch Wheel, Beat will appear whenever Mega Man falls into a pit and carry him around for a while, but only if Mega Man had previously acquired an item known as "Beat's Whistle". The player then must move to a safe area before Beat releases Mega Man, as he cannot hold his weight for much time. Beat functions nearly identically in Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, though the item required to use him was renamed "Beat Call".
- Beat is also one of Mega Man's custom special moves in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, thus making it one of the few elements that first appeared in the Super Smash Flash series before appearing in the official Super Smash Bros. series.
